19 Sep Fall Activities at Rock Creek Farm
Colorado’s autumnal weather ushers in more than just colorful mountainsides and picturesque yellow Aspen groves. It also invites in a number of exciting activities occurring in the neighborhood. Rock Creek Farm, located right here in Broomfield, is situated on acres of beautiful rolling farmland and is gearing up to host exciting fall activities at the farm.
About Rock Creek Farm
While Rock Creek Farm is known for its 100-acre pumpkin patch, many don’t realize that it’s also a year-round working farm. Mary Miller, known by many as the Mother of Lafayette, introduced the first threshing machine to Colorado in the late 1800’s, prompting an era of agricultural revolution throughout what is now Boulder County. The Millers were cattle herders who raised and sold beef to surrounding communities. In 1980, Boulder County bought a portion of the land for agricultural preservation, thus creating what we know as Rock Creek Farm.
Fall Festivities
The “U-Pick-Em” pumpkin patch is the main fall attraction, drawing crowds from all over the Front Range. As the largest pumpkin patch in Colorado, visitors are guaranteed to find a pumpkin that suits all their carving needs. These pumpkins are even harvested straight from the vine, honoring a decades’ long fall tradition at Rock Creek. Pick up straw bales, colorful Indian corn, or corn stalks to create an authentic fall-themed front porch that makes the perfect backdrop for Halloween and Thanksgiving photos.
Get lost in Rock Creek’s corn mazes, which are fun for all ages. Various distances provide a choose-your-own-adventure style activity that is neither haunted nor scary. For some good old-fashioned fun, weave your way in and out of towering corn stalks in the cool autumn air.
The Family Fun Play Area offers a hay-bale maze, photo ops in classic farm scenes, and a chance to get up close and personal with a wealth of farm animals. Pigs, chickens, cows, and goats stand ready to gobble up feed from open hands. To learn more about Rock Creek Farm’s fall festivities, check out its farm map, here.
