Broomfield’s Great American Picnic, 2019

Looking for a unique, family-friendly way to celebrate this 4th of July holiday? Broomfield County Commons Park is gearing up to host an annual Independence Day celebration. Honor Broomfield’s history and America’s independence at this lively festival. Here’s what you need to know:

When and Where:

Festivities begin at 5 pm in Commons Park. Inflatables will provide a great time for the kiddos and give them a chance to let that extra energy out. At 5:45, the bike parade will kick off from Championship Field. Find the full line-up of events here.

What to Expect:

Local artists Spinphony, an all-female electric string quartet, and Soul-X, a Motown inspired band, are set to take the stage during this community celebration. The 12th Annual Bike Parade is a much-anticipated event where participants can show their national pride by decorating bikes, trikes, and wagons with red, white, and blue.

Bring a blanket, chairs, and coolers for this picnic-style festival. Attendees are permitted to pack dinner in, but if you don’t feel like cooking, pick up a delicious meal from one of the vendors. Watch the sunset over the Rocky Mountains while enjoying hotdogs, fries, and other tasty treats.

Parking at Broomfield’s Commons Park is limited, so shuttles will be provided from Legacy High School to transport guests to the event. Attendees are encouraged to carpool to help congestion (and the environment). Glass bottles, open fires, charcoal grills, and personal fireworks are prohibited at the event.

For many, the fireworks show is the highlight of the holiday, which is slated to begin at 9:30 pm. A stoplight system will be implemented to advise guests of the show’s status should the weather take a turn for the worse. If weather prevents the display, the show will be rescheduled to July 5th at 9:30 pm.

The History of Broomfield:

Incorporated in 1961, Broomfield has been attracting residents from around Colorado. Havey ProCinema released Broomfield: Spirit of The American Dream, a film about Broomfield’s history, to mark the town’s 50th year anniversary. The film demonstrates how today’s Broomfield pays homage to agrarian roots while fostering future progress. For a glimpse of Broomfield through the ages, rent the film here.

Broomfield is nestled comfortably between Denver’s busy metropolitan downtown and the Front Range’s soaring Rocky Mountains. Since its inception, Broomfield has celebrated our nation’s independence and the freedom to pursue our dreams, just like Broomfield’s homesteaders who came before us.
